Description

Assistant Professor in Bioinstrumentation
Biomedical Engineering Department
Worcester Polytechnic Institute

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) invites applications for a faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in the Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department, specializing in Biosignals and Bioinstrumentation. The Department (www.wpi.edu/+BME) delivers a growing undergraduate BME program with approximately 230 students.

Over 50 graduate students enrolled in the Biomedical Engineering graduate program are pursuing MS, ME and PhD degrees. The department is conducting externally-funded research programs in the following areas: cellular and tissue engineering, biomechanics, biomaterials, bioinstrumentation, biosignal processing, physiological systems modeling or biomedical imaging.

WPI is building its strengths and capabilities in the life sciences and bioengineering and anticipates making multiple faculty hires across several disciplines to support this growth. The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally-funded multidisciplinary research program, develop strong partnerships with regional medical device/biotechnology companies, and contribute to and help lead the BME Department's central role in this effort.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in BME or a closely related field, experience in bioinstrumentation, sensors and biosignal analysis, and a commitment to excellence in both research and teaching.

Requirements

The BME Department is housed in the recently completed WPI Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at Gateway Park (www.gatewayparkworcester.com), a state-of-the art, mixed-use research facility dedicated to biomedical and life sciences research. The WPI BME Department also has extensive research relationships with the University of Massachusetts Medical School (~2 miles from the WPI campus) and the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University (~ 8 miles from WPI).

Located in central Massachusetts, Worcester is home to a dozen colleges united by the Colleges of Worcester Consortium (www.cowc.org), and over 100 biotechnology companies, including startup ventures as well as major pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Worcester is also conveniently located along the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) within commuting distance of Boston, MA, Providence, RI, and Hartford, CT, and driving distance to New York City, NY.

Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of accomplishments and future priorities in research and teaching, and the names and contact information for a least five evaluators who have agreed to provide letters of reference. These materials and any inquiries should be directed to Chair of the BME - Instrumentation Search Committee, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Department of Biomedical Engineering, 100 Institute Rd., Worcester, MA 01609.

Applications will be evaluated until the position is filled.

WPI is an AA/EEO employer and has an open records law. We promote excellence through diversity and encourage all qualified individuals to apply.
